AVRSB Begins Phase 2 of Schools Reviews
The Annapolis Valley Regional School Board has released documents related to Phase 2 of their ongoing Schools Reviews process. “Phase 2 – What are the Options?” presents a variety of options for reconfiguration of the student populations in the three review areas to improve the delivery of the education program to the region’s students. The options are being presented to elicit feed back from the school communities which will aid in the School Board’s long-term planning process. The Board is developing a long-range plan for the region to ensure the continued delivery of a quality educational program for all students in the face of declining student populations.
Documents relating to the reviews for Annapolis County, Eastern Kings (which includes Hantsport) and Hants West Schools have been posted the School Board’s website under the School Reviews icon. The most recent timeline for the Schools Reviews process is also available at this location.

Avon View Student Participates in the
National Remembrance Day Ceremony in Ottawa
Inspired by stories of family involvement in the Canadian Forces through the generations, Stephanie Adams wrote about the importance of observing Remembrance Day for the Legion’s essay writing competition. Her composition, Why Remember? won first place in the essay division and as part of her award, the Legion supported her travel to Ottawa to participate in the national Remembrance Day ceremony as a member of the Vice-Regal party. Pictured here on the red carpet with the Prime Minister and other dignitaries, Stephanie laid a wreath on behalf of the youth of Canada before going on to also meet Governor General Michaelle Jean and Prince Charles. In addition, she was hosted on a tour of the Canadian War Museum, and at the Silver Cross Mother’s luncheon at the Governor General's residence. Stephanie’s essay, and other works from the Legion’s Remembrance Contest can be viewed at: http://legion.ca/_PDF/Teachers/winners_2009.pdf
